Driving in Saint-Tropez

Luxury car rental in Saint-Tropez with Zeus Prestige is delivered to your villa, your hotel, the port, or the airfield at La Môle (LTT). Rent or hire a convertible, a supercar, an exotic or a luxury SUV and explore the peninsula and the hills behind it yourself. A convertible suits the beach road to Pampelonne, and a sports car suits the forest roads of the Massif des Maures.

Saint-Tropez was a fishing village when the painter Paul Signac sailed in during 1892 and stayed. Matisse followed, and the Annonciade museum by the port still shows what they painted here. In 1955 a film crew arrived with Brigitte Bardot, and the village has been famous ever since. The 17th-century citadel looks down on terracotta roofs, the old port holds fishing boats and superyachts side by side, and the café terraces on the quay face them both.

Mornings belong to the Place des Lices, where the market sets up twice a week under the plane trees and pétanque takes over when it leaves. Lunch is on the sand at Pampelonne, five kilometres of beach in the neighbouring commune of Ramatuelle. Somewhere in the day there is a slice of tarte tropézienne, the cream-filled brioche created here in the 1950s. A single road leads into the village and it is slow in summer, so the pleasure of a car here lies on the peninsula's lanes and in the hills, early or late in the day.

Luxury Car Rental in Saint-Tropez: Three Drives From the Port

Gassin, Ramatuelle and Pampelonne

Leave the roof down all day for this one. A loop of about 30 kilometres circles the peninsula: up to Gassin, a hilltop village with a view over the whole gulf, along the ridge past old windmills to Ramatuelle, and down through vineyards to the beach at Pampelonne. The lanes are narrow and lined with umbrella pines and cane, and the air smells of hot resin and sea. On the crest between the two villages the land drops away on both sides, and your breath shortens for a moment. Lunch is at the beach. The car waits in the shade of the pines, roof still open, and takes the vineyard road home as the light turns gold.

The Massif des Maures

A sports car or a supercar wakes up in the Massif des Maures. From Grimaud, fifteen minutes from the port, a small road climbs west into forest of cork oak and chestnut and winds for some 25 kilometres to Collobrières, the chestnut capital of Provence. There are few villages and little traffic, only bend after bend under the trees, and your pulse rises with each one you link to the next. Partway along, a side road leads to the Chartreuse de la Verne, a monastery alone in the forest. In Collobrières, order the chestnut ice cream. The way back is the same road, and it is better the second time, when car and driver both know it.

The Gorges du Verdon

The Verdon is a long day, and it wants a car built for distance: a grand touring car or a luxury SUV. Drive north for about an hour and a half, through Draguignan and across the high plateau, to a limestone canyon some 25 kilometres long and up to 700 metres deep, with a river the colour of jade at the bottom. The rim roads pass a string of belvederes where the drop is sheer and vultures circle at eye level. At the western end the river opens into the Lac de Sainte-Croix, and above it the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie sits under a cliff. Through it all the cabin stays cool and quiet, the seats support you for hours, and the car returns you to the sea in time for dinner on the port.

Luxury Car Hire in Saint-Tropez: Questions Answered

Can I hire a luxury car in Saint-Tropez?

Yes. Zeus Prestige delivers luxury hire cars to villas and hotels in Saint-Tropez, Ramatuelle, Gassin and Grimaud, and to the port. Send us the address and the dates, and the car comes to you.

Which airport is closest to Saint-Tropez?

The airfield at La Môle (LTT) is the closest, about 17 kilometres from the village, and takes light aircraft only. Toulon-Hyères (TLN) is about an hour away and Nice Côte d'Azur (NCE) around an hour and three quarters, longer in summer. Delivery is available at all three.

Can I hire a car for a private jet arrival in Saint-Tropez?

Yes. Smaller private aircraft land at La Môle Saint-Tropez (IATA: LTT, ICAO: LFTZ), about 25 minutes from the village. Larger jets use Toulon-Hyères, Cannes-Mandelieu or Nice. Your self-drive hire car is delivered to whichever airfield you arrive at.

What type of car should I hire in Saint-Tropez?

Choose a convertible for the peninsula and the beach roads, a supercar or sports car for the Massif des Maures, and a grand tourer or luxury SUV for a family at a villa or a long day out to the Verdon.

Is traffic bad in Saint-Tropez in summer?

At peak times, yes. One main road serves the village, and in July and August it can be slow from late morning into the evening. Plan drives for early morning or after the beach crowd has gone home, and use the back lanes through Gassin and Ramatuelle.

Is Saint-Tropez a good base for driving the French Riviera?

Yes, with time in hand. Cannes is about an hour and a quarter away outside peak traffic, Marseille about an hour and three quarters, and Monaco around two hours.

Choose from our cabriolets, supercars, exotics and SUVs, tell us where on the peninsula you are staying, and the keys will be ready for your luxury car hire.
