Olive groves climb the slope on your right and the lake narrows between mountains ahead, a view that catches your breath each time it reappears. The air smells of olive wood and warm water. From Malcesine a cable car climbs Monte Baldo. Lunch is lake fish on a terrace. The car ambles home along the same shore with the afternoon sun across the water and the roof still open.

From Caprino Veronese the provincial road climbs through Spiazzi, where the sanctuary of the Madonna della Corona is built into a sheer cliff, and on up to the high pastures at Novezza.
