Driving in Geneva

In Geneva, luxury car rental with Zeus Prestige arrives at Geneva Airport (GVA), at your hotel on the lake, or at a private address in town. Rent or hire a luxury SUV, an exotic, a sports car or a supercar and set off for the Alps, the Jura or the lakeshore yourself. Luxury car hire and exotic car rental in Geneva begin minutes from mountain roads in two countries, Switzerland on one side and France on the other.

Geneva sits where the Rhône leaves the lake, with the Jet d'Eau throwing its plume 140 metres above the harbour and Mont Blanc on the skyline in clear weather. The old town climbs to St Pierre Cathedral, where Calvin preached from 1536. The Red Cross was founded here in 1863, and the European headquarters of the United Nations stands in a park above the water. Watchmaking has been a Geneva trade for more than four centuries, and its famous names line the Rue du Rhône.

The city is small, orderly and best taken slowly. Morning coffee in Carouge, laid out to a Piedmontese plan in the 18th century. A swim or a fondue at the Bains des Pâquis, depending on the season. An evening walk along the quays as the lights come on across the water. Everything else is close: the French border wraps the canton on three sides, the Jura is half an hour away, and the Alps begin within the hour.

Luxury Car Rental in Geneva: Three Drives From the Lake

The Lavaux Vineyards

Roof down, lake on your right. Follow the north shore for about an hour toward Lausanne, then leave the motorway for the small road through the Lavaux, some 800 hectares of terraced vineyards that monks began building in the 12th century and UNESCO listed in 2007. The lane threads between stone walls through villages such as Epesses and Saint-Saphorin, with the water far below and the Savoy Alps across it. You smell warm stone and vine leaves, and the drop beside the lane quickens your pulse. Continue to Montreux and the Château de Chillon, on its rock at the water's edge. The car is at its happiest on the way back, when the low sun turns the lake to copper and the road opens ahead.

The Col de la Faucille

Supercar or sports car, this short climb is worth the detour. Cross into France at Ferney, pass through Gex, and take the D1005 up the wall of the Jura to the Col de la Faucille at 1,323 metres, about 40 minutes from the city. This was the old main road between Paris and Geneva, and its long hairpins once hosted a hill climb. Each bend opens a wider view, and your heart rate climbs as the lake drops away below. From the top, on a clear day, the chain of the Alps stands across the horizon with Mont Blanc at its centre. Take the descent steadily and let the car's brakes and balance do their work, with that view filling the windscreen.

Chamonix and Megève

In winter above all, take a luxury SUV or a grand touring car on the road to Mont Blanc. The Autoroute Blanche runs southeast from Geneva into the Arve valley and reaches Chamonix in about an hour, directly beneath the highest summit in western Europe. From the town, the Aiguille du Midi cable car climbs to 3,842 metres. Megève is half an hour back down the valley, a village of chalets, horse-drawn sleighs and long lunches. The cabin is warm and quiet while the peaks crowd the glass, the seats are a comfort after a morning in the cold, and the car returns you to the lake as the lights come on.
